Happy June my dear and amazing Family!!!! Can you even believe that May has come and gone? I'm so very happy that I get to talk to you today! First off, HAPPY SUMMER and congrats on finishing another year of school! Thank you SO much for the fun email and all of the details! I loved your email so much and loved every word! Today for P-day we planned to go to Manhattan but we heard that there was a storm rolling in and so we aren't sure what to do today since the weather is going to be stormy. We might be playing some sports at the Church again which is always a lot of fun! We are also going to go to Cross Bronx Pizza again and look around to see what there is to do! I hope that we can talk back and forth as well and chat! I also wanted to thank you in advance for the Birthday package!!! I'm so excited to get it and open it in just a few days! It will be lots and lots of fun! We have had so many people to teach and I'm so thankful for the success that we are having! Summer can be a little tricky meeting with people because a lot of them plan vacations and so it can be hard to find a time to meet with them. We might have to push Jonathan's baptism date back a week or two because he hasn't been coming to Church in a few weeks and we aren't sure why because he always is free on Sundays and tells us that he will come. The weather here has been really hot and humid for the most part and we have been having a few rain storms lately but luckily they have been overnight. I love checking the weather in Utah and it sure has been nice the last few weeks!
What an awesome day last P-Day was!!! It was so amazing!! We had so much fun and the weather was so nice! It was a little cloudy but the temperature was perfect! It was a lot of fun to have P-Day on a holiday and know that you were all having a great time too! We talked together as a zone and thought it would be so much fun to go play on the turf field right across the street from Yankee Stadium and so we all went down and we were the 1st ones there and so we got to watch all of the fans flood into the Stadium and we got to listen to the whole national anthem and everything! What an amazing experience that was! We didn't see too many Astros fans but we saw tons of Yankee fans as to be expected! We also got to see a sliver of the screen and we got to see a couple of live shots of the players on the field! It was tempting to buy a ticket and go in because there were scalpers all over the place and so it would have been easy to get in, especially towards the end of the game. We stayed there for most of the game and it was just so cool to be running down the field and hear cheering right next to us from the fans in the stadium! We played for a good 3 hours because it was just so fun and we didn't want to leave! It was so lucky that not only Memorial Day landed on a P-Day but also the fact that the Yankees were playing! I was surprised that they were struggling since they are #1 in the league but then I remembered that the Astros won the World Series last year. It was a lot of fun and we were so tha kful that we could go and see that! I had lots of fun emailing you and getting emails back right next to the Stadium as you were watching it! We didnt want P-Day to end but we knew that it had to. We got all ready to go and then we went to our lesson with a less active member who we met a few days prior named Gerard! He was at a Memorial Day barbeque and totally forgot about our appointment and so then we went to our Family Home Evening activity and Prince was able to come from Harlem! We had a good turnout and had a great time and had fun talking with the members! I am so thankful for the video that you sent me and it worked perfectly! I'm so grateful for all of your emails and pictures and all of the conversations we were able to have! I hope the rest of your day was fun and that you had a yummy dinner!
Tuesday was a really awesome day too! We got to go on a split within our apartment and I got to go with Elder Ihalmo into their area! It was such a great day and the temperature wasn't too hot! We got talking and we just couldn't believe that June is almost over and that June is the halfway point for the month. It was fun to be in a different area while Elder Mitonzi and Elder Palmer were in our area. I was thinking about each of you and wondering how everyone was doing. I had such a fun time the day before talking back and forth with you and seeing so many awesome pictures and videos! Your Memorial Day dinner looked so yummy and I could almost smell it! I was thinking about Mom as well since it was her SUMMER VACATION! I hope that she was able to get lots done that she wanted to get done! I wasn't sure what we would be doing for the day since I didn't have the other Elders' schedule and so we planned for our day and I got to see what we would be doing. It has been very different to have District Meeting on Tuesdays because when we have them, it makes it feel like a Monday but we are really getting used to the change and I love getting your emails on Sunday nights! Elder Ihalmo is a really great guy and very humble. He has been to Sweden many times and so it is fun to talk to him about my ancestors! Since Elder Ihalmo is the district leader, I was able to go to leadership meeting and it was really awesome! I was very excited to get your fun email and pictures of Parker and his award! It was so great and I was just so proud of my little Bro! Congrats Parker! We had a very spiritual District Meeting and then had some lunch. I loved your pictures that you took and it was so fun to see Parker's award! Thanks a ton for thinking of me! We found a really cool kid on the bus and he told us that his Dad coached Olympic runner and he is trying to get a scholarship to Virginia Tech or Miami! I told him "Go Hokies & Go Hurricanes" and he thought that was really cool! We were also able to visit Devar at his restaurant! He is doing really well and he is such a great guy! They needed to fill our his baptismal record to submit to Church headquarters. After dinner, we called our investigators and invited them to basketball and then we went to pick them up! We had a great turnout and we had lots of fun! We shared a scripture out of the Book of Mormon and talked about serving others and watching out for those small moments to serve! I really enjoyed going on another split with Elder Ihalmo! He has lived in a totally different place his whole life and so it has been fun to talk to him about what Finland is like! There was a beautiful full moon out and it looked sort of red! I was hoping that you could see it too! What a great day it was! Love and miss you all so very much!
Wednesday was such an awesome day too! I was just so excited for Parker and his huge achievement! It takes so much work and I'm so thankful that he was able to get it! There has been a lot of talk about this transfer's zone conferences because they didn't tell us what date and time it would be until today. Usually we find out pretty early but this transfer they told us later than they usually do. We got an email telling us that zone conferences would be Tuesday, June 12th at the mission home! It will be a really exciting time because we think it will be kind of like a farewell fireside or something along those lines! Usually it is a collection of zones but this time it will be just the Bronx zone! I'm really looking forward to them and it will be fun to have it so close to my birthday! I told President Smith last P-day that I was willing to serve in either mission. I told him that I would love either one and I would continue to work as hard as I can! The days are really counting down aren't they?? We are less than 3 weeks away until transfer calls as of Saturday the 2nd. We had a great day and it was nice to have some clouds to cover us from the hot sun. The humidity is what makes it feel so hot and uncomfortable. I miss the dry heat of Utah! After pur studies, we went to out first appointment with a Jamaican man named Robert. We were able to deliver a large print Book of Mormon and Bible to him and when I say large print, I mean LARGE print! The pages are humongous and can be read from outer space! Hehe! Just kidding! It sounded like something Brian Regan would say. After that we walked around for a while talking to people on the streets and knocking on doors. It was extremely hot and humid and I'm pretty sure that we burned a few hundred calories! We were waiting for a bus and then we saw a lady standing near the bus stop and we started talking to her. Come to find out that she was one of the coolest people that we have talked to! We started off by asking her how long she had been waiting for the bus and she was pretty frustrated because she had been waiting about 30 minutes and so we knew that it would be coming soon. We asked her if she was just getting off work and she told us that she worked just up the hill. We were actually far up into the North part of our area and right along the border of the Bronx and Yonkers. There are tons of pretty trees and well manicured yards and park areas. It defintly doesn't look like the Bronx. It's funny how there is a dividing line that you can immediately tell that you are in a different part of New York City. We looked up ahead of where Yonkers was and it was totally different than the Bronx. Pretty interesting huh? It was one of those beautiful days that I appreciate so much and I love all of the diversity and variety of people that we meet. The lady that we talked to told us that she was from Virginia and her friends talked her into moving to New York. She works on all of the little park areas in the Bronx and really makes them look nice! She was just so nice and willing to talk! We were able to tell her about what we do as missionaries and then gave her a Restoration Pamphlet! He also told us that she went to a school in Virginia and so I asked her which one. She said "Oh, it's a college that nobody has heard of, Virginia Union and my parents went to VCU." Then I said: "Oh! The Virginia Commonwealth Rams right?" She was shocked and then I talked about how they made it to the Final Four a few years ago. When we got back to the apartment for dinner, I got some sad news. We found out that Charles McClain from Manhattan that we would go visit and tried to baptized him, passed away the night before. It was pretty shocking because he is only in his 60s. I felt so bad for his daughter, Monae, who had just gotten baptized before I got to Manhattan. We had a really great evening! We went to our weekly correlation meeting and it is always fun because Frank always brings pizza! It was so great and we talked about all of the recent converts in the ward! I was way excited because Grandma Evans sent me a really fun email! We were at the Church and a girl from the Spanish ward walked by and I was so surprised to see her t-shirt! I know Dad would be proud!! It was a Delaware Blue Hens shirt just like Dad's! I thought it was pretty cool because I asked her if she knew that Joe Flacco graduated from there! It was pretty cool because all of these football trivia and watching football has really paid off!!! It was such a great day and I hope your day was fun as well! Only 2 more days of school kids!! Keep pushing forward! You've got this!!
Thursday was another beautiful and productive day of hard work! I was thinking about you a lot as you went to Maddie's graduation and I hope that you had a really fun time and a safe trip! It was our weekly planning again and it felt like we had just did our weekly planning and here we were doing it again! We had an awesome conference call and President Smith and he invited us all to fast as a mission and he talked about the spirit that is with missionaries and what a special time it is to be a missionary and be set apart to preach the Gospel and just how amazing this opportunity is and also how cool it is to be able to have a new mission President come in July! We were able to go teach Justin LeBlanc and he told us that he missed Church because of the rain. We are really having a hard time teaching him the importance of the Book of Mormon and it's converting power. He is SO set on the Bible and won't accept the teachings of any other book. He gets frustrated with us because we ask him to read the Book of Mormon and he just doesn't understand that it doesn't replace the Bible and only enhances what we know! We were able to call lots of our investigators for our weekly planning and then we had one of the weirdest rain storms that I've ever seen. It was like a mist and didn't even feel like rain. It felt like standing in a sauna or a steamy bathroom. It was really weird. Then we went to our appointment with a less active member that we met while he was fixing up his Dogde Challenger and so we set an appointment with him and his non member sister that lives with him! So we were excited to go over and teach them the Restoration! He wasn't home for some reason even though we called and texted him to remind him but we saw 3 really cool things as we were out and about!!! First, we found a Family that Elder Mitonzi taught in Harlem and they were so busy that missionaries lost contact. So we got their info and are so excited for the missionaries in Queens to teach them! Then we saw a Utah licence plate and so we wrote a note on it that said "Hello fellow Utahns! Give us a call when you get this note!" It was so cool and made me think of home! Then we said hello to this teenager from Africa and he was walking past us and when we said hello, he stopped, turned around, and shook our hands. He got our card and said that he would call us! It was such an amazing way to end the day! I was hoping that you were having a great time in Woods Cross at Maddie's graduation! Love you all tons
HAPPY LAST DAY OF SCHOOL ABBY, BRANDON, AND PARKER!!!! HAPPY SUMMER! I was so excited for the kids to be done with school and couldn't wait to hear about their last day at school! We had another awesome day and it rained quite a bit but it was still a great day! We had lots of lessons scheduled and so we were looking forward to getting started! I have been reading the Book of Mormon and I'm already in Alma 6! I started at the beginning of this transfer and my goal is to read it all the way through before the new mission President comes in and so far, I'm ahead of my reading! We started the day by visiting a newer referral that we received named Clyde Washington. We didn't know too much about him and so we wanted to get to know him better. We were excited because Waldir put together a missionary dinner at the Church and so we had lots of fun having that at the Church at 4:00! He is the member that just got baptized a few weeks ago and loves missionaries and so he does a missionary dinner every month. He said that we don't get home cooked meals since we are so far away from home and so he likes to add a touch of home to our missionary work! I was REALLY excited to see your email and I absolutely loved your calender! What a cool calender! Thanks so much for your email and wishing me a Happy June! It is hard to believe that a whole year has past because it feels like I just had my Birthday and you were on your trip! It was a lot of fun to hear from you! We went to a travel agency to get a signature notarized for Elder Mitonzi since he had his wallet stolen. I looked at the clock and realized that the kids were just getting out of school and I wished them Happy Summer! Waldir was cooking up a feast for all of the missionaries and he invited anyone that wanted to come and so we helped set up some tables and chairs. He is a good cook and loves the missionaries and wanted to wish us all a Happy 1st day of June! We waited at the Church for our investigator, Kevin Graham, to show up but he got off of work late and the trains were all messed up and he said that he was too stressed out to meet with us. Our dinner was so yummy and we had sausage and noodles with garlic bread and nummy sodie watey! I was really excited for your email and I loved to see the boys all happy and ready for summer! I was so happy to see all of them done for the summer! We talked to a guy from Gambia on the bus and we got talking to him and we found out that he took a test at Kingston High School and he thought it was so cool that I lived right around the corner! Then we showed him a map of Utah and showed him where we lived in Utah and he said "Logan! Sounds nice!" It was really cool to show a guy from Africa some new places that he hasn't ever heard of before. We shared with him the Restoration and then we found Jonathan at home and he was really excited for his baptism! The hardest part has been calling him because he turns his phone off so he can talk to people face to face and so we have to make the trip to his apartment to visit him. It was a very great day and I wished the kids Happy Summer! I wish that I could say it in person and give you a big hug but for now, HAPPY SUMMER!!! LOVE YOU!
Saturday was so awesome! I was hoping that you were all having a great and fun day! It was another busy day full of cool experiences! I have seen so many amazing things happen on my mission and I'm so grateful for the chance to be a missionary for this short time! We had the opportunity to go and clean the Church first thing in the morning and so that was a great experience! We had 6 missionaries come and then 1 other brother from the ward and so it went pretty quick! We did our personal study and I enjoyed reading out of the Book of Mormon and Preach My Gospel as usual! It's interesting how different things jump out at me and stand out. We went to an appointment with Emmanuel Opoku and he is a really great guy! He had throat cancer and so he had parts of his vocal chords removed and just loves life and always has a smile on his face! He never answers a question with "Yes" or "No" he will always tell us "God willing." He will only do something if he thinks that it is God's will for him to do it. Isn't that interesting? He has a hard time reading scriptures but he cries almost every time we go over for a lesson. He feels the spirit and knows that he is learning truth and so it is all up to him to read the scriptures and come to Church. They are really awesome and smart and they told us that they had both been reading the Book of Mormon! The hardest part for them is coming to Church because they are a really important Family to have in the Church that they go to because they provide most of the music. Then we were able to visit a man who ordered a Bible online and he was really interesting. He is a Vietnam war veteran and has some PTSD and so he isn't all the way there. He was kind of scary and we were nervous that he was going to flip out at us even though we were just talking about the Book of Mormon. He thought that we were being disrespectful because we weren't acknowledging his service in the war properly. We thanked him for his service but he didn't appreciate it. We left pretty quick because he just wasn't all there mentally. It was really crazy! Then we were able to teach this REALLY cool guy named Edward Abraham! He lived in Harlem and just turned 71 and has lots of great questions. He ordered a Book of Mormon online and wondered about Adam and Eve and wants to learn more! We taught him almost the whole Restoration and really was a neat guy to talk to! It's always so fun to teach people like him because he has had these questions for so long that no other Church could answer. He didn't have a lot of time but we are really excited about him! Then we were able to come back to the apartment and have dinner and I made some Frito pie, just without the Fritos, hehe! Then we found 2 new investigators tonight which was just awesome! I was thinking a lot about you all and Grandma and Grandpa Lindberg as they travelled to Indiana to see the Fam! We found a really awesome guy with lots of potential to progress and his name is Babatunde Adesida! He ordered a Book of Mormon online and we happened to knock on his door 5 minutes after he got home from work! It was so amazing how the timing worked out how Heavenly Father lead us to him! We got a text telling us that we would have a late night conference call from President Smith and so we were very excited for that! He also wanted to have a mission wide fast for fast Sunday which was a cool experience! It is crazy to think that he and his Family have less than a month left and that he is finalizing everything for the transfers! "Things just got interesting!!!" I thought of that quote that you always say! Hehe! The conference call was so awesome and Sister Smith said an amazing prayer for the missionaries in our mission and also for our Families back at home! I hope you can feel my love always because I sure can feel your love!
Sunday was very awesome! What an amazing and fun email!!! I was really, really excited to read your email and see your pictures! I just couldn't wait to hear from you! We headed from President Smith and he gave the whole permission to watch the youth broadcast at the Church and so I was excited to watch it and know that you were watching it as well! It was pretty cloudy and rainy but we put a smile on our face and headed off to Church! We found out that it was Justin's last day coming to Church in a while since he is going back to Dominica for 3 months. He is our investigator that just walked into Church, sat down, and has been coming ever since and so we are sad to see him go. We were able to say goodbye to him and then I got a picture with him! We had some great testimonies and a great spirit in the meeting! I just couldn't wait for your exciting email! Sunday nights are so awesome and I look forward to them so much! We studied by ourselves after Church to prepare ourselves for the lessons and then we headed off to a lesson with Immanuel and his wife is the one who just had a baby named Zion. Then we knocked on the door of a man named Robert to get to know him better. Then as we were walking by a Chinese restaurant, we saw a kid about Parker's age and he was rolling stack's of coins for his Dad and we assumed that his Dad was the owner. He had tons of coins out on the table and I would have loved to sift through them! Then we had a really awesome lesson with Immanuel and his Family! Right now we are working with 2 investigators named Immanuel and they both have sons who are named Immanuel Jr and so I'm sorry if my emails as confusing and hard for you to understand who is who.
Immanuel has a wife named Mary and they just had a little baby named Zion. We taught them all the Restoration and Immanuel's Mom was visiting as well and so it worked out perfectly to share the Restoration with a big Family of 5! They live in a home that has been converted into 3 separate apartment rooms and the 5 of them live in a tiny attic space apartment and have very humble living conditions. It's a humbling experience just to be there and see how they live because they all have jobs and work hard to keep their apartment. Really amazing experience! We showed a video about the Restoration and the Book of Mormon and the 2 kids who are Parker's age, were staring at the video and were mesmerized by it! It was really awesome to see! The spirit was there and we are just so happy that everything went so well with the lesson! We were really excited to watch the youth broadcast and it was even more fun to know that you were watching it too! We got to the Church to set up and help welcome everyone that came to watch. We had some technical difficulties but we ended up using the tv and it only buffered a few times! It was mostly missionaries that showed up and we all had a lot of fun watching it! It was so good and I loved every word! We got back to the apartment and I was just so very excited to get your email!!! Your email was just so amazing and I'm so excited for school to be out! It's so crazy to think that I will be home less than halfway through this next school year! Your email was seriously so amazing as usual! It's so cool how I can feel so much love from just your writing and the details that you include! Keep it up because I absolutely love and appreciate it SO MUCH!!!! I loved reading every single word and just loved all of the details! I feel like I was there with you for the whole week! I can't wait to talk to you tomorrow! Love you all tons!
Well my dear loved ones, thanks a ton for your awesome emails and pictures! I'm so thankful for each and every one of you and all that you do for me! I wish that I could give you all a big hug right now!
I hope you have the best summer ever and I'm really looking forward to hearing about all of the fun things that you get to do! I am so thankful for your many prayers, love, and support! You are the greatest Family in the whole world and you mean everything to me! It's hard to believe that some of the people that I graduated with will start coming home pretty soon! Elder Houser only has a few more weeks left and it's so hard to believe! I hope you all have a really fun day and I look forward to talking to you! I just want you to know how much I love and appreciate you! I think about and pray for you each and every day! Have an awesome day my dear Family! LOVE AND MISS YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH!!!!
Love You Always!
~Elder Lindberg
Wednesday was such an awesome day too! I was just so excited for Parker and his huge achievement! It takes so much work and I'm so thankful that he was able to get it!
Well my dear loved ones, thanks a ton for your awesome emails and pictures! I'm so thankful for each and every one of you and all that you do for me! I wish that I could give you all a big hug right now!
Love You Always!
~Elder Lindberg
