May 16th 2018~WHAT AN AMAZING SKYPE CALL!!! P-Day Switches To Monday! Thanks For The Shoes! Staying In Kingsbridge With Elder Mitonzi!
Hello my dear and amazing Family!!! WOW!!!!! What an amazing Skype call we had! I can't say thank you enough for all of your kind words and making it SOOOO special! It means the world to me to have such an amazing and wonderful Family cheering me on every step of the way! Yesterday was my 1st day of my 12th transfer and it really is so hard to believe that we are less than 6 weeks away from becoming the New York, New York City Mission and so much will change! I just want to thank you for the amazing conversation that we had on our Skype call and all of your fun questions! I hope I didn't talk too much! Hehe! Also, thanks a ton for the new shoes! They work perfectly and are so comfy! We have lots of fun plans for today and we hope that the weather will cooperate. The weather here has been so rainy recently and we heard that Saugerties got a tornado! We want to play some District sports at the turf field again but it is supposed to rain all day and so we will play some indoor sports like gator ball and volleyball. We are also going to be taking a Manhattan trip pretty soon and so we are excited for that! We had a great week and I'm excited to tell you about it! We are working with lots of different people and we are excited to have a baptism in June! Jonathan has been working a lot and so it has been hard to contact him and Bishop and his Family have been busy with work and appointments but we are still on track for Jonathan's baptism!
Last P-Day was a ton of fun! The temperature was perfect and we had a blast at the zoo! We even ran into a couple who are dating and they both served missions in El Salvador and Oregon! We saw tons of cool animals and I especially loved the giraffes and monkeys! Elder Mitonzi kept saying "my cousins" whenever we saw a monkey! Hehe! It wasn't too hot which made it even better and we had lots of fun looking around at all of the different animals that they had! They had a lot more than the last time that I was there and so it was a whole new experience! After the zoo, we were all really hungry and so we called Cross Bronx and he said that they were open and so we went and grabbed a delicious giant slice of pizza and had lots of fun! What was funny is that Cross Bronx is a few miles away from the zoo and we saw that same couple that both served missions! It was really cool! Then we went back to the Church to get some nice Mother's Day haircuts from Jay and we had a great time talking with him! He lives in Queens and so it is a big sacrifice for him to come and give us haircuts! Sometimes when the weather is really nice, he will ride his bike which is close to 10 miles. The weather could not have been more perfect and the day was just so much fun! All of the Elders in both the Spanish and English Kingsbridge Wards showed up at the exact same time and so there was a line of 8 missionaries that all needed their hair cut but luckily I was 3rd in line and Elder Mitonzi didn't need one and so we got done pretty fast and then cleaned the apartment and had fun relaxing and enjoying each other's company! After 6:00 came around, we went to our weekly ward correlation meeting with Brother Gerhartz and Frank and it was a really great meeting! Then we had something really awesome happen! We were on a bus to go visit someone and as we were talking to someone on the bus and as Elder Mitonzi told the person that we were talking to where he was from, a lady turned around and whispered to me: "is he from Uganda?" She introduced herself and it turns out that she is from the same collection of villages in Uganda that Elder Mitonzi is from! Then we found out that she is a member and was baptized many years ago! It was such a cool way to end the day! I love you all so much and it was a lot of fun to chat back and forth!
Thursday was a very awesome day! I woke up and was so excited to see your email! I always appreciate emails so much and I love hearing from you! We had another busy day planned from appointments that we set during the week and we also had weekly planning which I always enjoy! Sometimes it can seem like a long time and lots of phone calls but I really enjoy calling our investigators and sharing scriptures and setting up appointments! We had a really awesome conference call from President Smith and he talked about our Skype calls. He told us what an amazing opportunity it is to be able to call home and express our love to you! We enjoyed reading from the Book of Mormon and then after lunch, we went to our lesson with Justin. He is such a great guy and loves to come to Church but has a hard time with listening to us and he just wants to talk the whole time that we are over. It's a struggle to teach him the things that he needs but he loves the Bible. We were able to read 2 Nephi 28 and we learned about the true Church that Christ established is once again on the Earth and he really liked it. Then we were able to do our weekly planning before mail came and I was really looking forward to getting some new shoes! We got a hold of a ton of people which was awesome and set up lots of appointments! We had an appointment with Travis, who is a member, and it turns out that the Sisters had an appointment with his Mom at the exact same time and so we shared a Book of Mormon scripture with him and them enjoyed a walk up by Fordham University and we knocked on Leon and Jonathan's door but neither were home and so we went to the Church to pick up mail before going home and when we walked inside to get mail, and by the time that we walked out of the Church with mail, it was absolutely POURING rain! I can't even stress the word POURING enough. It was an absolute DOWNPOUR and I don't think I have ever seen so much rain all at once. Then came the thunder and lightning. Lots of people were screaming because of how loud and close the lightning was. We were in short sleeve shirts because there wasn't any forecast for rain. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for the new shoes!!!!! I love them and I'm so grateful for them! They will be so nice to wear! Thank you SO much! You are the best!!!! We headed off to bed with sounds of thunder and the lightning lit up our whole room. It was crazy but a really awesome day!
Friday was a really awesome day as well! We are so close to Skyping! Almost there! The skies really cleared up and was such a beautiful day! We had lots of lessons planned and I was was looking forward to trying out my new shoes! They fit me perfectly and are really comfortable! I didn't even have to break them in because they are exactly the same as my other ones and they are really nice! Thanks again for sending them! We headed off to our weekly zone meeting and we talked all about using the scriptures, listening to our investigators, and giving out more copies of the Book of Mormon. Then we had something sad happen. We had an appointment with Jessie Drag who has been really hard to meet with and he has been not showering up for our appointments and so we decided to stop visiting with him. When people don't keep their commitments, then we need to stop teaching them and find other people who are willing to meet with us and who keep their commitments. After lunch, we got to have a really awesome lesson with Charles Whitfield who has been coming to Church off and on for about 2 years. We shared the "Music of the Gospel" video and then he asked us some great questions about prayer and how we can receive personal answers to our questions. It went really well and he even committed to come to Church and also the Baptism the following morning. He is in his 50s and feels sad that he hasn't found a wife yet. He said that it's sad that even though he doesn't drink or smoke and has good morals, he can't find a wife. He tries to date but never can get married because of his high standards. It is pretty bizarre and it doesn't make much sense that nowadays, especially in the Bronx, it's harder to get married when you are doing the right thing. Then we went to an appointment with the Simpson Family and they are both from Jamaica. They weren't home and they both got called into work and so then we came back to the apartment for dinner. Then we got a call from the Sister Missionaries in our ward and they asked us to go and visit one of the Families that they are teaching. The Mom is single and has 2 teenage sons and so they asked us to go visit them so we could connect with their sons. They were really awesome but they live outside of our area and so we passed their records of to the other Sisters and then we had a great lesson with the 14 year old Kadeem over Skype. It was such an awesome day and I was getting more excited by the minute for our Skype call! 48 hours to go!!!!
Happy Mother's Day Eve! What an incredible and exciting day of missionary work! So much happened and we had lots of fun things go on! It was pretty stormy all day with lots of thunder and lightning. I was hoping that you were all having an awesome day and getting as excited I am to Skype! We started the day by going to a baptism that Sister Felix and Sister Ellsworth had for a lady named Raven. We also had such a fun dinner at Applebees to celebrate our Mothers and we also had a really awesome Stake wide Mini MTC Fireside that was so cool and really well put together! I can't wait to tell you all about it! I uploaded some pictures of the itinerary so you can see what we did for the activity. They have been planning this activity for a while now and they typed up a schedule of all the activites and asked all of the missionaries to help out! The baptism started a little late because they turned on the water a little late. It was a great baptism! Prince was able to say the closing prayer and we had an awesome turnout! We were getting really excited for all that was going on like Skyping, Mini MTC activity, dinner at Applebees, and transfer calls! After the baptism, we had lunch and then went to a lesson that our roommates found but since they live in our area, we will be teaching them and so Elder Palmer and Elder Ihalmo were there to introduce them to us. The lesson went so well and he told us how Heavenly Father has allowed him to live because he had thyroid cancer and now has to use a traque to speak. He is from Ghana and has lots of Faith and potential to progress! Then we went to our last appointment of the day with a man named Hebert Green before our dinner and Stake wide Mini MTC! Herbert Green ordered a Bible only and he lives on the very far East side of our area and so it took us a while to get there. The lesson was really awesome though and when we walked in, we noticed that the Oakland Athletics were playing the Yankees on TV in the Bronx and so it was really fun to know that they were playing so close by! We taught him about the Book of Mormon he asked why we beleive in 2 scriptures and not just the Bible. That has been hard to explain to people because they think that people should only read the Bible. By the end, he committed to come to Church! Then we went to Applebees right next to Fordham University in a really nice part of town to celebrate Mother's Day to honor our amazing Mom's! It was also to celebrate being able to Skype you!!!! It was Elder Palmer's very 1st Skype call on the mission and so we wanted to make it extra special! We were all just really excited to call home to say the least!!!! We had a total blast and we ate lots of yummy food! The Applebees is really nice and It had tons of mirals of Fordham University sports and they also had lots of football memorabilia. I got chicken tenders and fries because Mom makes the BEST chicken tenders and I got honey mustard to go along with it. We had a fun chat and we each talked about our Mom's and what you mean to us! It was a lot of fun and then we went to one of the coolest activities! It was called a Mini MTC and they had all of the youth from the Westchester Stake come and they went through the whole Missionary experience like getting a mission call and a nametags and then they taught us as missionaries acting like real investigators. It was really cool and we even had Todd Mortenson come, who is a Bishop in the New Rochelle Ward. I've heard that he was the backup quarterback for Tom Brady and played in the NFL for a few years. He is a really nice guy! President and Sister Smith also came and gave some really cool trainings to the youth on how to teach the Restoration! I was hoping that it was Mother's Day so that we could Skype but I realized that I had to wait another day. It was a very amazing day and so much happened and then we went back to the apartment excited and anxious for transfer calls! I was really hoping that Elder Mitonzi stayed because we are loving working together! There is always a lot of excitement when transfer and leadership calls come in. The transfer calls came in at 10:30 and we got the news that our whole apartment is staying the same! Wheww! There are 2 Sisters that will be leaving and then the companions with become companions. It was a relief to know that we were all staying together! We headed off to bed very excited for our Skype calls!
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO THE BEST MOM EVER!!!!
Time to Skype!!!! What an amazing Skype call it was! Everything went so perfectly and I couldn't have asked for a more fun Skype call! Thank you all so much for your awesome comments and questions! I loved every single second of it! We were all really excited and We all woke up and were talking about our Skype calls! I am so grateful for you Mom and everything that you have taught me! I'm so thankful for all of the skills that you have taught me and the love that you always show to us all! You are always someone that I can talk to and you always have the best advice! I prayed a lot that everything would go smoothly and that the technology would work ok! I was hoping that you were having an awesome day and 7:00 couldn't come quick enough!
We got ready for the day and then headed off to the Church and there was a lot of talk about our Skype calls and members asked us if we were excited. The answer was obvious, hehe! Yes!!!! There were also a lot of goodbyes to the 2 Sister Missionaries that were getting transferred. It was cool to think that I was still the 2nd oldest in the district and it was hard to beleive that I hit my 16 month mark on Friday! Church was so great and we had 3 investigators in Church! We had some great talks about Mothers and it brought tears to my eyes. We talked all about how important mothers are and some of the many attributes that you have! Elder Palmer and Sister Ellsworth spoke and shared so many memories about their own Mom's. It was really cool and the classes were so great! We had Kevin Graham, Justin, and Charles come and they all really loved it! Elder Ihalmo did his call at 8:00 in the morning and had a really great time talking to his Family and said they were doing great! Then I realized that Mom was giving her talk right at the moment that I looked at the clock. The hours were counting down until our call and we worked like the wind and time flew by even quicker. They had a nice primary musical number for the Moms and they sang some new songs that I haven't heard before and they had some bags of chocolates for all of the Mother's and it was a really great time! After Church, we had a lesson with Kevin Graham and he told us that he separated from his girlfriend and so he was having a hard time. We shared a few scriptures from the Doctrine and Covenants and then had some lunch. We were able to knock on some doors and everyone was in a really good mood. We told people "Happy Mother's Day" and we got a lot of nice people! There were lots of parties going on and lots of music as well. We knocked on lots of doors and then got ready for our call! I set up my flag and was SOOOOOOO excited to call!! It was such an amazing call and everything was just Awesome! I appreciate each of you so much and everything that you do for me! Elder Mitonzi said to tell you hello and I gave him a big hug from you! It truly was such an amazing experience that I will never forget! HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!! Love you all so much!!! Thanks so much for your awesome emails and love that you sent my way! I totally agree that it was amazing Skype call!!
Monday was so awesome! I woke up and was still on cloud 9 from our Skype call! I am just so grateful that everything went well and that we all had a great time! I was sad that it was over but it just was so awesome to see you! I am so grateful for each one of you! We got a Facebook message from our Zone Leaders and we found out that our P-Day will switch to Monday this next week to the 21st. It's crazy how long ago that we have Monday P-Day was. It will be quite the change and will be so different from what we are used to. It will be interesting to see when our P-Day will be when the new mission President comes in. So that's exciting because we have 2 P-Days within just a few days! It will be really Awesome! I was thinking a lot about our call and how grateful I am for you and all of your love and support! It was weird to think that the next time that I would talk to you would be on Christmas! It was such a fun time and I'm so thankful that it all went well and that we had a really fun conversation! I had tears of joy and thankfulness toward you! We woke up and remembered that our district meeting would be on Tuesday due to transfers that day and so they did it a little later on in the day. We had a great day and got so much done! I realized something really crazy! At the end of this next transfer, before President Teuscher gets here, we will have a giant group of missionaries going home that won't get to meet President Teuscher. In that huge group will be a lot of my friends like Elder Kirkham, Elder Smiley, and Elder Bradley who I lived with. It's so crazy to think that my trainer is headed home in the next 6 weeks. When he was training me, he was only at about 6 months. So crazy!!! The only thing that I can think of that I forgot to mention in our Skype call that I remembered something that would be awesome for my Birthday! I have almost filled my big, nice journal that you gave me for my last Birthday and so that would be awesome! I just need one to finish out the last little bit of my mission and I should be good to go! I was thinking a lot about our Skype call the whole day and just so grateful for that time that I had to talk to each of you. It's always sad and hard to say goodbye again but is as excited for P-day to talk to you again! I loved hearing from each of you and what you had going on. I also felt bad because I forgot to ask Mom how your talk went! I know that you did an incredible job and everyone loved it! I have been typing up and thinking about my goals a lot. I have loved being able to have time to get to know the scriptures better and continue to learn so much. I typed up a list of goals and attributes that I want to have when I return home. I can't wait to share them with you and I want you to help me achieve them. Some of them include always being a full tithe payer and show love to everybody. I will share with you my goals when I come home and I'm excited to achieve them! We did lots of lookups today and even got to teach Family Home Evening! We did a jeopardy game and thought of some Gospel related questions and had a great time preparing the lesson. The focus was on the scripture "If ye love me...." and then we had some videos about keeping the commandments and the blessings that come from obedience. Then we had a very great and spiritual lesson with a guy named Ramos. He is from Nigeria and works as an IT professional and works for a technology company and he is also in charge of running the websites for his Church. It was really awesome to meet with him and we shared the whole Restoration and he was very impressed that we pay tithing and follow the 10 commandments. He told us that our beliefs are so similar. He goes to a Reformed Christian Church that was started in Nigeria and was intrigued when he met a member from Idaho near the Manhattan Temple. Then we had a really awesome turnout at Family Home Evening and we had so much participation! I love teaching Family Home Evening! We played Jeopardy with some questions about the Church, Prophets, Jesus Christ, and Temples. It was so fun and everyone really enjoyed it! I was hoping that your post Mother's Day was going awesome and everyone had a great day at work and school! Love and miss you all every day!
Tuesday was so great! It was a great and busy day! Thanks so very much for your awesome email and pictures! I loved what you said about Elder Mitonzi and I during our Skype call and what a cool experience it is to serve together when we both have so much experience! It has been awesome to work together and put into practice what I've learned! I was thinking about you a lot and very excited to get your email! It's always so much fun to read your email and see your pictures and I appreciate so very much! We had a busy day ahead of us and we were looking forward to starting a brand new transfer! 2 of the Sister Missionaries in our district got transferred and the 2 companions that stayed became companions and so it was wierd to have 1 whole companionship gone from our district. I have loved being able to strengthen my testimony of the Book of Mormon and be able to learn from the scriptures and feel the spirit. I have been having lots of questions about what I should do for school, occupation, and so I have made it a goal to read the entire Book of Mormon by the time that the mission merger happens on July 1st. I started reading the day after Mother's Day and I'm reading like the wind to finish by the time President Teuscher gets here. It will be really awesome! I love reading the Book of Mormon and having a question in mind as I read and the spirit teaches me so many things! It's amazing how the spirit works and how clearly it can help us and show us the correct path to take! We headed out for our day and knocked on lots of doors at the top of our area. We didn't have very much luck finding people at home but we knew that there was a reason why we were there. We got to talk to quite a few people from Jamaica and talked to this one man from Africa and he had a really cool car! He had a 1974 Mercedes Benz in perfect condition and we got to talk to him about the Restoration and likened it to his car. We told him that just like his car was Restored to perfect condition, so was Christ's original Church upon the Earth. It was a really hot and humid day but just meeting that guy made it so much better! Then we had District Meeting since transfers were happening that morning and it was really great! I gave a spiritual thought and I thought it went great! Hopefully the other missionaries learned something! Hehe!
Then we got talking on the bus ride over to go to our dinner appointment and we realized that this is the last transfer EVER in the New York, New York North mission. We talked about it in District Meeting and realized that this is a huge deal and probably won't ever be called the New York, New York North mission again. Then we had a yummy potato bar dinner with Brother and Sister Natter and their 3 year old son Arthur! They are really awesome! Brother Natter was born in Kentucky and served his mission in the New York, New York North mission and he really is excited to live within his mission boundaries! Sister Natter was born on the East coast and served in London. They own their own business and work from home and actually live right next to my very first apartment! We had potato bar with all the fixings and then had a ton of fun playing basketball at the Church with some investigators and it was so great! I eagerly awaited your email and pictures and was so excited to read it! It was hard to say goodbye and I really missed you the last few days especially because I had a blast talking to you. I had this happen the last 2 Skype calls. I missed you all a lot more and wanted to talk to you so bad! Thank you SO very much for your amazing emails and pictures! Holy cow, I'm so spoiled!!!! Love you all always!!
Well my dear loved ones, I loved being able to talk to you and I'm excited that the next time I will get to talk to you is next Monday! It will be very wierd to switch back to Monday P-Day but it might be getting switched back in 6 weeks when President Teuscher gets here. We will see! It will be fun to start having P-Days on Monday and go back to when I first got into the mission. It will be very different and quite the change but I like having P-Day on Monday. I would have to say that I like Wednesday P-Day slightly more because it helps break up the week but I'm looking forward to getting emails from you on Sunday nights! I hope you all have a great few days and then I will get to talk to you on Monday! Only 2 more days until I hit my 16 month mark! How did that happen? I hope work and school will go great for you and that you have lots of fun! LOVE & MISS YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH!!!!!!!!!!
