May 3rd 2017~Hello Again My Dear Family!
Hello Mom, Dad, Abby, Brandon, and Parker! I am so glad that I am able to email you all again! I didn't have very much time on Monday so I'm so glad I'm able to email you again! I am going to love Wednesday P-Day so much! It will be very different from what I am used to but I'm really excited to go back to the Temple! I hope you all had a great last few day and are having fun as well! It sounds like you have a fun, big party for Grandpa's birthday on Saturday! I was so glad that you got to go to Rumbi with him! I always pray for you all and I always feel so many prayers as well! I am SO glad that you got my package! It was a ton of fun to put it together and send it off! I cannot believe that the bottom didn't break out! Right after I paid and sent it, as we were walking out of the Post Office, I thought to myself: "Did I even tape the bottom!?!?" I am so grateful that it didn't pop open! I have been loving Yoo-Hoo lately and so I thought you would like some as well! I'm so glad you got it and are enjoying everything! I hope I remember everything that I want to tell you! First of all, I loved your email and pictures! I loved the quote that you sent to me yesterday! It is always really fun to get those!
The weather is beautiful today! Hardly any clouds in the sky and the temperature is perfect! It has been so pretty and pleasant to be out in! There are lots of flowers blossoming and birds out!
I am SO stoked to Skype you all! I have been looking forward to it so much! So I have been thinking about a time to Skype and I haven't talked with Elder Dick yet about a time to Skype but I was thinking that we could either do it in the morning before we have Church like 9:00-10:00 our time, 7:00-8:00 your time. Or we could do later in the evening after your Church is done. We are really flexible!
Which time would you prefer?
Monday went great! We woke up, got ready for the day, and then we studied! Then after that we had our very quick 2 hour P-Day which was so nice to have! It went by really quick though! We actually got to do our laundry and grocery shopping! So we got our laundry all done, folded and put away, then we headed to the grocery store and got all of our shopping done! Then after that we all wanted to go out and eat somewhere for Elder Kirkham's last day here in the Bronx! So we all decided to go to delicious George's! We all knew what we wanted right off the bat because they have this really good breakfast called the "George's Super Special Meal"! So after we got everything done we emailed you all and then we headed off to George's! We were really excited but sad at the same time because are time was limited with Elder Kirkham. George's Diner is so cool! It has that classic diner feel to it! So we all ordered the huge George's Special breakfast platter and enjoyed spending time together so much! Afterwards we were all stuffed! It was such a pretty day outside! The weather was perfect! Bright, sunny, and a nice cool breeze blowing! Then after George's Elder Kirkham decided to head back to the apartment and start packing for the transfer. So we headed back to the apartment and Elder Kirkham packed up everything while I cleaned the whole apartment! I have been SO grateful for you teaching me how to clean! I love having a nice clean apartment but sometimes Elder Knudsen and Elder Smiley let it get pretty messy. But I'm always happy to help out by doing dishes, and sweeping and mopping! So while Elder Kirkham packed, I cleaned the bathroom, swept and mopped, did the dishes, and cleaned off the counters so it would be nice and clean for when Elder Dick got here! It was nice to have some time to just clean everything really well! Then while I was cleaning and Elder Kirkham was packing, we got a call from Sister Heiner, and Sister Robison and they said that the Harlem ASL missionaries were over at the Church printing some papers at the church and they locked their bags with their tablets in the Clerk's office and we are the only ones with keys to the Clerk's office so we headed over to the church to help them out! It was fun to talk with them and get to know them better? Then by that time it was 5:00 so we headed back to the apartment to finish packing. It was sad to see him pack stuff up that has been there since last October. He has been such a great example to me! So after we packed everything up and got the apartment all ready for Elder Dick to tranfer here the next morning we headed off to bed. It was a great day and Elder Kirkham and I really enjoyed spending time together and talking before he left!
Tuesday was transfer day! Lots of changes! I didn't want Elder Kirkham to transfer but I knew I would love and have success with Elder Dick! So we woke up, got ready for the day, did our last studies together and then Elder and Sister Coleman saved us from taking a trip all the way to Inwood! They offered to pick us up at the front door of our apartment since they live down the street by the church and drive us to the Inwood Chapel for transfers! It was so nice of them and it saved us from having to take Elder Kirkham's luggage on a bus and train which is always hard because the busses and trains are usually packed! So we got Elder Kirkham all packed up and he said goodbye to the apartment and we headed downstairs to meet the Colemans at noon! So when we got downstairs, the Colemans pulled up to the curb right on time! So we loaded Elder Kirkham's luggage into their car and headed off to the Inwood Chapel! It only took us about 20 minutes to get there because there was no traffic which is awesome! So we were the first ones there. We waited for about 20 minutes in the Coleman's car which we were the only companionship that they drove down and then everyone started to show up. I was really sad to leave Elder Kirkham because he has been such a fun, hard working companion and has taught me so much! He is a great missionary and we had so much in common! So the other Elders and Sisters drove up in the big van with all of their luggage and Elder Dick got out first and I recognized him because I looked at him on the Christmas card. So he got out and I gave him a big hug! He is a great guy! So we loaded everyone's luggage onto the big U-Haul that they had for the upstate missionaries. Then I had to say goodbye to Elder Kirkham.
He told me to keep working hard and keep being awesome! I told him to keep on being a great example! So we said goodbye and then the Colemans offered to drive us back since they live really close which was very nice of them! So off we went and Elder Kirkham went with his new companion, Elder Stevens and away they went! Elder Dick is a great guy! I'm so glad that I am able to tell you more about him! He is from North Carolina and has 1 older brother and 1 younger brother. He was born and raised in North Carolina and is a huge Duke fan and he went to 1 year of school at Byu. So he has lived away from home before coming out here. He is 20 years old and turns 21 in January. Something really cool that I found out about him is that he was actually a Portuguese speaking missionary in Danbury Connecticut, which is in our mission, and has been there for his whole mission. President Smith decided to switch him over to English for a little while and so now he is in the Bronx with me! So, he was actually called to serve in a mission in Brazil but had his Visa declined twice and then he got mono just 2 weeks before leaving the MTC, so he had to go home and then he permanently got switched to our mission. It has been great to get to know him. He has had a very different mission coming from talking with people in Portuguese from the Dominant Republic, and Portugal. He is very different than Elder Kirkham but I have learned so much from him already. I CANNOT believe that I'm already to my 3rd cycle and my 2nd companion. Time really is flying by! I'm not sure if it is for you but I feel like I'm still in the MTC! So after we got home and Elder Dick unpacked a little bit we decided to go get him signed up to WiFi so he can get out area book and have all of our information and then get him a MetroCard! So after that we did our companionship study and then had some dinner! Then after we ate we headed back out to do some lookups near our apartment and then we did some street contacting! We talked with a lot of cool people and the cool thing about having a companion that speaks Portuguese is that we can talk to a LOT more people! The problem is our discussions with them are pretty one sided!
He does all the talking and I nod my head. "Just smile and wave boys!" We have only met 2 people so far that speak Portuguese but it is cool to have a companion that can talk to them! So after we handed out some cards with our phone number and talked with a ton of people, it was time to head to bed after a long and productive day of missionary work! I really like my companion and he is going to be great! We were both beat!
I am so excited for today!! We are just going to a quick grocery trip and then the 4 of us are heading down to Manhattan! It will be so much fun! It will be really cool to be where a movie was filmed! I will be sure to tell you all about it!
Well everyone! It was so much fun to email you all again! I had a blast! I hope you all have a great week and have lots of fun! I hope we are able to chat back and forth a little bit! I want you to know how much I love and miss you! I have felt so much love and so many prayers! I will be thinking about you all week! Thank you again for your amazing email and all of the great pictures you took! It was great! I appreciate so much all of the details you include! Dad, we will definitely go get some good Tacos for Cinco De Mayo! I love you all so much and miss you every single day! Your last email made me feel so much better and not as homesick anymore! So thank you! I have been feeling much better! But I still miss you all! Have a great week at work, school, soccer, reffing, and everything else that you have going on! Parker, keep up the good work buddie and score tons of goals! Have so much fun watching the Jazz as well! LOVE YOU ALL SO MUCH!
Love Always!
